Laparoscopic surgery, also known as keyhole surgery, is a minimally invasive surgery that avoids the need for an open surgical procedure and instead uses a thin, long flexible tube with an attached light to determine the functioning of the targeted organ or area in the body. This thin, long tube is inserted through a keyhole and equipped with a tiny camera that transmits images to a video monitor as it moves. This thin, lighted instrument is known as a laparoscope, and the procedure is known as laparoscopy. Other surgical instruments inserted through the incision site to surgically cure/remove the problem may be used to support a laparoscopy in some cases. Laparoscopy provides detailed, realistic insights into the patient's current condition and aids in the development of a targeted treatment or surgical plan. Laparoscopy is also used to treat minor ailments. As a result, a laparoscopy can be used for both diagnostic and surgical purposes.
